We would love to welcome you to Rivermead Cottages, situated in the beautiful Glynn Valley, just off the A38 in Cornwall. Rivermead is a special place which provides comfortable, characterful accommodation for individuals, couples and families in a safe and secluded, 17-acre estate with woods, meadows, a stretch of the River Fowey and a large lake to explore and enjoy.

We’ve tried to include as much detail as we possibly can to help you decide whether Rivermead is for you, as we understand that our guests have differing needs. About Rivermead

Rivermead Cottages are based at Rivermead Farm and have been providing holiday properties to guests since the 1970s. Dating back to the 1700s, the farm house, dairy, stables and barn, the old Cornish stone buildings were converted to provide one large, detached 4-bedroom cottage (The Old Farmhouse) and a Barn building which houses four separate units: Bluebell and Squirrel Cottages on the ground floor (each with 2 bedrooms) and Kingfisher and Oaktree Cottages on the first floor (each with 1 double bedroom). Two wooden lodges (Owl and Otter) were added in 2018 and each have 3 bedrooms.

Rivermead is situated almost halfway between Bodmin and Liskeard and so transport is necessary if you wish to explore the area; although some of our guests choose not to leave the site once they arrive! Bodmin Parkway railway station is just over 3 miles away and taxis are available at the station. The nearest airport is Newquay, 18 miles west. Exeter is located northeast and is approximately 57 miles, or one hour by car. Just 2 miles away, Trago Mills is on the No.77 Liskeard Bus Route between Liskeard and Looe. The nearest shops are approximately 2 miles away at Trago Mills, 4 miles away at Dobwalls’ Spar and Post Office, or there are lots of supermarkets in either Bodmin (6 miles) or Liskeard (7 miles).

Rivermead is reached down its own private, wooded driveway and all the properties have ample, free parking right outside and their own private entrances. There are tarmac/paved surfaces up to all of the properties’ entrance doors.

The Old Farmhouse

In short: a detached stone cottage for up to 7 guests. The Old Farmhouse has 2 x king-size beds, 3 x single beds and 1 x pull-out bed. There’s a large farmhouse kitchen, living room with log burner, a king-sized bedroom and shower room on the ground floor and three further bedrooms and a family bathroom on the first floor. Outside, there’s a gravelled area, small lawn and a concreted back yard. Car parking is just outside the property.

Leading from the car parking area is a radial step up of 9cm/4”. The path leading to the property entrance is paved with paving stones.
At the front door there is a 10cm/4” step up to the 10cm/4” door threshold. The front door is 96cm/38” wide.
All rooms on the Ground floor are on the level.
The entrance hallway is 213cm/84” X 142cm/56” and carpeted.
The height of all ceilings on the ground floor are 193cm/76”.
The door opening inwards into the lounge is 70cm wide.
There are 3 x sofas. The seat height of the sofas is 46cm/18”.
There is a log burning stove.
The lounge floor is carpeted.
The power sockets are 30cm/12” above floor level.
The light switches are 142cm/56” up from floor level.
Lighting is via 3 x wall-lights and 2 x lamps.
Heating is via a wall-mounted electric heater.
The south facing window cill height is 99cm/39”.
The window opens outwards.
The door opening inwards from the lounge to the kitchen is 77cm. The kitchen has a tiled floor.
The mixer tap for the sink has twist top handles.
There is a stable door, opening inwards, leading to the outside and side of property which is 80cm/ 31”.
The height of the kitchen worktops is 92cm/36”. The electric hob is at this height whilst the electric oven with drop down door is located under the worktop.
The height of the wall units are 46cm/18” above the work top.
All appliances are floor mounted except the microwave at eye level on the worktop.
Heating is via a wall-mounted electric heater.
The kitchen table is 77cm/30” high.

The door leading outwards from this bedroom into the small lobby is 69cm/27”. The lobby is carpeted with a south-facing window which faces south. The height of the window cill is 97cm/38”.

The door opening inwards into the downstairs Shower Room is 71cm/28”.
This room measures 3.13/10’3” x 1.96/6’5”. It has a pedestal basin, loo and separate shower cubicle.
The floor is tiled.
The shower cubicle has a 13cm/5” step-over threshold. The shower tray is 64cm/25” square. The electric shower has a sliding handset rail.
There are no grab rails in the shower room.
The basin taps have twist top handles.

Height to the top of the bath 56cm/22” Height to the wash hand basin is 83cm/32.5”. Height to WC seat is 43cm/17”.

There’s no grab rail in this bathroom.

Otter and Owl Lodges

In short: the lodges each sleep up to 6 guests in 2x king-size bedrooms (one with en suite and one with huge walk-in wardrobe) and a twin. There’s also a family shower room with loo and basin and a large open-plan living/dining/kitchen area. Otter is nestled in the valley overlooking the Fowey and Owl is perched on the hill. Accommodation for both is all on one level and parking is right outside (Otter’s door is reached via a gently sloping path from the car park). Both lodges have private patios and seating areas.

Both lodges are accessed from the car parking area by a slabbed walkway.
There is a ramped ledge at front door.
The front door opens inwards and is 32”/82cms wide.
The entrance lobby is 47.5”/120cms wide x 74”/189cms.
The lobby has a Siemens washing machine and a radiator.
Storage cupboards and central heating boiler (LPG).
The outward opening door into the internal hall is 31”/80cms.

Bluebell Cottage

In short: all on the ground floor, Bluebell sleeps up to 4 guests in a double room and a twin. There’s a shower room with basin and a loo, a kitchen and a spacious living/dining room. Bluebell is carpeted throughout except for the shower room which has a tiled floor. Outside Bluebell has a small grassed area and a tarmac area with seating.

There is a step up into the doorway – H14cm/5.5” | D49cm.19” | W 88cm/34.5” and then a 1cm tile threshold.
The Stable door opens outwards and is 69cm/27” wide.
There is a further step up into a small, tiled lobby – H 11cm/4.25” | W 80cm/31.5”.

There is a small north facing window with a sill height 134cm/53” up from floor level.

Squirrel Cottage

In short: all on ground level, Squirrel sleeps up to 4 guests in a double and a twin room. It has a dining kitchen, a lounge and a shower room with a loo and basin. The hall, bedrooms and lounge are carpeted. The shower room is tiled and the kitchen and entrance hall are lino. All windows open outwards. Outside, Squirrel has a tarmac area adjacent to a lawn and seating.

There is a 5cm/2” step up into the entrance doorway.
The front door is 79cm/31” wide and opens inwards.
The entrance hallway is 149cm/58.5”opening out to 167cm/65.75” wide by 82cm/32.5” deep.
There is no door leading into the kitchen which is straight ahead, the opening is 74cm/29.25”, the kitchen floor space is 236cm/93”.
Height to kitchen worktops is 93cm/36.5, wall units are 43cm/17” above the worktops.
The fridge is floor mounted and a microwave is on the worktops.
The electric hob is at worktop height with an electric, downward-opening oven underneath.
There is a kitchen table that seats 4 guests 75cm/29.5” high. The seat height is 46/18” high, the height of the seat back is 43cm/17”.The entrance into the lounge from the entrance hall is 76cm/30”, there is a 10cm/4” step down into the lounge. The door opens inwards.

The lounge measures 3.45/11’4” x 3.23/10’ 7”.
There are two comfy sofas, seat height 46cm/18”.
The south facing window sill is 53.5cm/21” off floor level.

The light switches are 137cm/54” above floor level.There is a door opening inwards leading into the hall. It is 85cm/33.5” wide. The hallway is 345.5cm/136” long by 99cm/39” wide. From the lounge door into the hall turn right into the shower room. The doorway is 85cm/ 33.5” wide, the door opens outwards.

There is a 24cm/9.5” step up into the shower cubicle which is 74cm/29” square.

Off the hallway on the left-hand side of the corridor is the twin bedroom. The door is 73.5cm/ 29” wide and opens outwards.

Kingfisher and Oaktree Cottages

In short: Kingfisher and Oaktree each have a double bedroom to accommodate an individual or a couple. They have a living/dining room, kitchen and shower room with a loo and basin. Kingfisher has a small hallway separating the kitchen and shower room from the living room. Although on the first floor of the barn, these cottages have their own private accesses on one level, with ample parking as well as useful porches. Their seating area is right outside. Bedroom, hallway and living room floors are carpeted. Shower rooms and porches have tiled floors and kitchens have lino. All windows open outwards.

Kingfisher Cottage

From the car parking area in front of the cottage there is a 13cm/4.25” step up onto a concrete step of 75cm/30”w x 46cm/18”d. There is then a 3cm/1.25” step up into the entrance porch through a door 78cm/31”.
The entrance porch is 264cm/104”L x 132cm/52”w.
The internal door to the cottage is 75cm/30”.
The hallway is 3.2/10’6” x 1.35/53” max with a wall-mounted electric heater.
At one end is the shower room through the inward opening door which is 70cm/28” wide.
There is a step up into the shower of 22cm/9”and the cubicle is 76cm/30” square. The height to the thermostatic shower controls is 133cm/53”.
Lighting is via a ceiling light with a pull cord.
Heating is via a wall-mounted fan.
Taps on the basin have twist top handles.

At the other end of the hallway is the kitchen which has an outward opening door that is 64cm/ 25.5” wide.
The kitchen measures 3.07/121” x 1.4/5’5”.

From the car park in front of the cottage there is one upward 8cm/3” step onto a concrete platform, 277cm/109” long x 142cm/56” wide. There is then one step up 15cm/6”h x 46cm/18”w. Then another upward step 14cm/5.5” into the entrance porch through the external door that is 71cm/28”w.
The entrance porch is 264cm/104”L x 132cm/52”w.
There is a step up 1.5cm/0.5” into the inward opening internal door 80cm/31.5” w.
The light switch is at a height of 125cm/49”.
The internal door opens inwards into the large lounge/diner.
The lounge/diner measures 5.5/16’7 x 4.47/14’8” max.
There is a dining table and 2 chairs with a seat height of 46cm/18”, seat backs 58.5cm/23” high.

The Grounds

There are 17 acres of natural woodland and meadow at Rivermead as well as a lake and a stretch of the River Fowey and we hope you will enjoy exploring them. There are lots of places to walk despite the ground being uneven in some areas. The river walk begins along the path behind Otter Lodge and continues down a sloping path to earth steps which bring you to the river. There’s a lovely walk all along the river down to the lake. Alternatively, visit the lake first by walking over the grassy area in front of Owl Lodge and across the meadow. The banks along the river can be very steep and slippery. Please supervise children at all times near water.
