Bodmin Moor Walks
There are a wealth of fantastic Bodmin walks covering the different landscapes of this 208 square kilometre granite moorland, only a mile North of Rivermead through Mount village. The Moor is the source of the Rivers Camel and Fowey, also containing Brown Willy which is the highest point in Cornwall. Bodmin Moor is steeped in rich mystery and legend, Dozmary Pool is said to be where Sir Bedivere threw Excalibur to the Lady of the Lake and is home to the Beast of Bodmin. Our favourite walks are Minions and the Cheesewring, as well as Bury Castle.
There are plenty of walking Apps available to plan your route but if you prefer the more traditional approach, we have many books with walks on the moor to be found in our Information Room!
The Camel Trail
This trail along a disused railway line provides 18 miles of lovely views of the Cornish countryside between Wenfordbridge, Bodmin, Wadebridge and Padstow. The trail is accessible on foot, by wheelchair, by bike (there are plenty of places to hire bikes or bring your own), and on horseback. The three sections are: Padstow to Wadebridge – 5.5 miles, Wadebridge to Bodmin (Boscarne) – 5.75 miles and Bodmin to Wenfordbridge – 6.25 miles. There are places for refreshments and loo stops along the way and, as the trail runs through both a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Area of Conservation, keep a look out for otters, bats, dormice, Kingfishers, egrets, Marsh Orchids and Marsh Marigolds. This is the perfect Bodmin walk for all who love wildlife!
The South West Coast Path
We’ve saved the longest walk until last! The incredible South West Coast Path is a 630 mile route running from Minehead in Somerset to Poole in Dorset. You’ll be pleased to know that you don’t have to complete all of it, and there are more than 600 short walks of about 3-6 miles each, which allow you to dip in and out depending on your strength and stamina. The landscape and views are all incredible and you’re bound to find a new favourite. We love Lantic Bay to Polruan, Boscastle to Tintagel and Looe to Polperro.
