Enjoy the Fire
To us, holidays are all about switching off and finding fun in simple pleasures. Rivermead’s beautiful setting and relaxing environment allows you to do just that.
We have a large outdoor fire pit in the grounds which guests are welcome to use. We try to leave a pile of wood for burning near it, but you’re free to forage in the woods for firewood, particularly if you have children with you who will enjoy the challenge of collecting it. We are happy to tell you the best places to find firewood if you fancy a camp-fire during your stay and, who knows, maybe you could toast some marshmallows, have a family sing-song, or share some ghost stories?
Pastimes for All
If you like being outdoors, there are plenty of on-site activities to tempt you whether it’s walking along the river or running to the top of the paddock, fishing for trout and salmon, trying your hand at a game of boules (petanque) on the court below Owl Lodge or, in the summer, enjoying giant Jenga, quoits and croquet. There are seat swings by the lake and a rope swing, as well as a bird hide hidden in the trees. Why not climb some trees, or play hide and seek? There are goal posts near the stream for football or ball-shooting practice. There’s such a variety of flora and fauna here that you might like to practice your wildlife photography, or find a secluded spot and hone your painting skills.
If the weather isn’t playing ball, the Information Room has cupboards packed full of board games and jigsaw puzzles, all of which you’re welcome to use during your stay. We also have a book swap library where you’re welcome to take a new book and leave one you’ve finished with.
