Looking After Our Environment
Read MoreAs generations of owners and guests have discovered, Rivermead is an incredibly special place. Tucked into an idyllic spot on the River Fowey with meadows, woodland, and a lake, Rivermead is not only in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; it is one. The variety of plants and animals thriving here is incredible and we want to do our best to keep it that way.
We are perfectly situated for guests to visit many of Cornwall’s fantastic attractions, but lots of our guests who return year after year find that a week has flown by, and they haven’t left the site or used their cars. There’s so much to do here: fishing, walking, bird spotting from the hide, setting up and painting by the lake, lying on the grass in the sun, reading by the river, trying your hand at boules, photography, hide and seek, picnics, shooting balls at the goal posts or testing your skills at giant Jenga.
If you do venture out, try to support local businesses, and buy local. We try to use local services and tradespeople whenever we need work doing on site and very soon all the produce in our Welcome Packs will be locally produced.
We’ve replaced all the light bulbs across the site – and that’s a considerable number – with low energy bulbs and the communal areas, like the Rod Room, have been fitted with timers so that no lights stay on for too long. We’re careful to wash at lower temperatures and rarely use the tumble dryer; isn’t it so much nicer to see clean washing blowing on a line? We do have a washing machine for our guests to use on site for an occasional necessary wash but not to do all your laundry before you go home, please. If you are washing, please try to use the washing lines on site rather than the tumble dryer and keep the dishwashers, if you have them, on the lowest settings.
