The Old Farmhouse
A detached eighteenth century farmhouse with lots of character and original features. Farm Cottage is the largest of our cottage rentals and is popular with families coming with grandparents and children. It’s a detached four-bedroomed property created when the original farmhouse and a stable, both dating back to the 1700s, were knocked into one. The cottage has loads of character and retains many of its original features including sloping walls, uneven stairs, inglenook fireplaces and low oak beams. See if you can spot the slate where someone nearly two hundred years ago scratched the date 1827.
What our guests say about The Old Farmhouse:
The farmhouse is perfect! Everything we needed was provided and was exactly what we’d hoped for. We loved the log burner which made the whole cottage feel so cosy when the nights were chilly. The Rivermead site is like a little bit of heaven and the Welcome Pack was fab!

Inside the Cottage
The kitchen is very well-equipped with crockery, glassware, cutlery, and utensils and even includes a picnic set. Additional items such as food processors, slow cookers and sandwich toasters are available upon request. The kitchen has an electric hob and oven, fridge, freezer, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, kettle and cafetiere. We’ll provide you with tea and coffee for a hot drink on arrival, oven gloves, tea towel and a kitchen starter kit of washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, sponge, and J-cloth.
To the right of the front hall is the first of the bedrooms with a king-size bed. It’s a large, bright room with new carpet, bed and furniture plus original beams and an open inglenook fireplace discovered in 2021 and restored as a beautiful feature. There’s ample storage with a hanging rail, chest of drawers, dressing table and bedside tables. Through this bedroom is a second small hallway leading to a ground floor shower room with a shower cubicle, toilet, wash basin, chair, and plenty of hanging space for towels. The ground floor bedroom and shower room are perfect for anyone who prefers accommodation on one level.
Upstairs
A Stunning Setting
The cottage has a new oak and stained-glass door, handmade by a local carpenter, which has really brightened the entrance hall and stairs. To the left of the hallway is the cosy, oak-beamed sitting room with three comfortable sofas, TV with Freeview and a large, stone inglenook fireplace with a wood burner. This is available for guests and logs are provided from the Rivermead woods. The large kitchen is accessed through the sitting room and situated at the rear of the cottage. It has large Velux windows letting in plenty of light. There’s a pine table which seats up to eight guests and a settle near the stable-style back door which leads out onto a private, walled yard.
Take in the Sun
Outside the front of the cottage, it’s a real suntrap. The benches are a great spot for watching the birds or listening to the sound of the river. There’s a table and seating for those all-important holiday barbecues and a Weber BBQ for your use during your stay. The Old Farmhouse has a gravelled seating area and a small, private lawn.
