The Old Farmhouse
The Old Farmhouse near Bodmin, Cornwall is a four bedroom detached eighteenth century farmhouse with lots of character and original features including Cornish stonework, sloping walls, uneven stairs, inglenook fireplaces and low oak beams.
See if you can spot the slate outside where, nearly two hundred years ago, someone scratched the date 1827.
The house is the largest of Rivermead Cottages’ holiday cottages, created when the original farmhouse and a stable, both dating back to the 1750s, were knocked into one. It’s very popular with families coming with grandparents and children, and groups of friends looking for a large house to holiday together.
What our guests say about The Old Farmhouse near Bodmin:
Our stay at the Old Farmhouse at Rivermead Cottages near Bodmin was so lovely. It was everything we had hoped for, and more. The log burner made the whole cottage feel so cosy when the nights were chilly, but we also had a great outdoor space for our morning coffees, and the children just loved the woods and swings. Having a downstairs bedroom and shower room was a real help with our parents, who struggle with stairs. The Welcome Bag with our cream tea and goodies was a wonderful surprise.

Inside the Old Farmhouse
When you come into the farmhouse hall, kicking off your shoes ready to switch off and relax, you’ll find the cosy lounge to the left, the main staircase right in front of you, and the downstairs bedroom to the right.
The oak-beamed lounge has four comfortable sofas gathered around a large inglenook fireplace with a log-burning stove, ideal for warming the cockles on chilly evenings.
The spacious kitchen/diner is off the lounge and has an electric hob and oven, fridge freezer, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, kettle and cafetiere. It’s well-equipped with cookware, crockery, glassware, cutlery, and utensils. Additional items, such as a food processor and slow cooker, are available upon request, as are extra items for cooking and baking, if you need them. There’s a large dining table, chairs and benches, and access to the rear private courtyard through a stable door.
In the kitchen, you’ll also find our Welcome Bag with a Cornish cream tea so you can enjoy a little treat on arrival. We also provide oven gloves, kitchen towel, tea towels and a kitchen starter kit of washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, a sponge, and J-cloth.
Heading back to the front hall, you come across the first of the bedrooms and, being downstairs, it’s a boon for guests who find stairs difficult. This large room has a king-size bed, dressing table, drawers and hanging space. Above you are oak beams, and there’s an original Cornish stone, inglenook fireplace, discovered bricked up behind 4 different fire places in 2021 and restored as a beautiful feature.
Through this bedroom is a second small hallway leading to a ground floor shower room with a shower cubicle, toilet, wash basin, chair, and plenty of hanging space for towels.
Free, full fibre broadband is available to guests across the site and, once you’ve booked, you’ll have access to your own online guest portal with lots of information to help plan your holiday.
